TRENGGALEK – Clean water access in Dongko Village, Trenggalek Regency, remains limited, forcing many residents to depend on river water for daily household needs.

Although the village has natural water sources and several water pumps, poor infrastructure prevents clean water from reaching every home. As a result, many families still look for alternative water sources, especially for washing, bathing, and other daily activities.

Dongko Village Head Marni said the village does not face a serious drought. Water is still available in several locations, but the current system cannot supply enough clean water for all residents.

She explained that the village already has pumps installed near the water source. However, the government still needs to build permanent storage tanks, pipeline networks, and household water meter connections.

“The water pumps are already there. We only need storage tanks, pipelines, and household water meter connections,” Marni said on Wednesday, April 22.

At the moment, villagers store water in a simple manual reservoir made from soil and covered with tarpaulin. This temporary solution cannot support proper water distribution to residential areas.

Because the storage system remains basic, clean water cannot flow evenly to houses across the village. Some residents must walk to other places or use river water to complete their daily needs.

Marni said the village still has enough water for basic consumption, but residents need additional sources for other household activities.

“It is not a drought. Water is still available, but for other needs, people still use river water,” she said.

River water has become an important alternative source, especially during periods of higher demand. Residents often use it for washing clothes, cleaning household items, and other domestic purposes.

The main problem lies in the limited distribution network. Without proper pipes and permanent storage facilities, clean water cannot reach all neighborhoods equally.

This condition affects not only convenience but also public health. Limited access to safe and clean water can increase sanitation risks and reduce the quality of life for local families.

The village government hopes the regional administration will provide support for clean water infrastructure development. Officials prioritize permanent water reservoirs, wider pipeline installation, and household service connection pipes.

Marni said better infrastructure would help the village distribute water more fairly and reduce dependence on river water.

She also stressed that improving clean water access is important for the long-term welfare of the community, especially for children, elderly residents, and low-income households.

With stronger support from the local government, Dongko Village expects to improve clean water services and ensure safer living conditions for all residents.

Improved infrastructure would not only solve daily water problems but also strengthen public health, sanitation, and economic productivity in the village.
