TULUNGAGUNG – SDN 1 Babadan classroom repairs project will move forward quickly after severe damage forced dozens of students to leave their classrooms in Karangrejo District, Tulungagung. Local authorities have pledged to accelerate funding and administrative procedures so reconstruction can begin as soon as possible.

The Tulungagung Regency Government announced the measure following the collapse of one classroom and the deterioration of another classroom at SDN 1 Babadan. Officials say they want to restore safe learning conditions and prevent prolonged disruptions to students’ education.

Acting Regional Secretary Tri Hariadi said the local government has made the repair project a priority. He stressed that student safety and comfort remain the main concerns during the response process.

“We will immediately carry out repairs so students can resume their learning activities without experiencing long-term disruption,” Tri said.

According to him, the administration will speed up budgeting and administrative procedures to allow construction work to start sooner. Officials also plan to evaluate conditions at other school buildings across the region to reduce the risk of similar incidents.

The damage at SDN 1 Babadan drew public attention after photos of the collapsed classroom circulated widely on social media. The images showed significant damage to parts of the roof and walls, raising concerns about school infrastructure and student safety.

Earlier reports revealed that two classrooms suffered serious structural damage. One classroom collapsed, while authorities deemed another classroom unsafe for educational activities.

The affected rooms served fifth-grade and sixth-grade students. A total of 63 students have had to relocate temporarily while school officials arrange alternative learning spaces.

To maintain classes, the school has moved students to the library and the prayer room. Teachers continue lessons in those temporary locations while awaiting reconstruction work.

School principal Endang Sri Wahyuni previously explained that the damage resulted from the building’s age and deteriorating condition. She noted that the school’s main structure has never undergone major renovation since its establishment.

The incident has renewed discussion about aging educational facilities in the region. Local authorities now aim to complete the budgeting process quickly and begin repairs before the situation affects students for an extended period.
