TULUNGAGUNG – Tulungagung’s rice production surplus continues to strengthen its position as one of Indonesia’s key food suppliers. Local authorities see agriculture as a major pillar of regional development and national food security.
Acting Regent Ahmad Baharudin highlighted the achievement during a grand harvest event in the rice fields of Podorejo Village, Sumbergempol District, on Monday. The event was also attended by House of Representatives Commission VI Chair Anggia Ermarini.
He said the harvest was more than a ceremonial gathering. It reflected the success of sustainable agricultural programs that have brought direct benefits to farmers and improved food resilience across the region.
According to Baharudin, Tulungagung produced 319,969.33 tons of harvested dry unhusked rice (GKP) throughout 2025. This amount was equal to 185,582.21 tons of rice ready for consumption.
With annual public consumption at around 90,944 tons, the regency posted a rice surplus of 94,638.08 tons. The figure placed Tulungagung among the most strategic rice suppliers in East Java and Indonesia.
“Our rice harvest production recorded a surplus last year. This figure places Tulungagung among the strategic rice-supplying regions in East Java and even at the national level,” Baharudin said.
The strong performance has continued in 2026. By March, harvested land had reached 11,743 hectares, producing 82,083.57 tons of harvested dry unhusked rice.
The temporary surplus stood at 24,770.87 tons. This shows that Tulungagung’s agricultural sector remains on a strong and stable path.
Baharudin said the achievement came from collective efforts by local government, farmers, agricultural extension workers, the central government, and private sector support.
He added that the Tulungagung administration will continue helping farmers by improving production facilities, farming inputs, and better access to markets.
“This grand harvest is not just about the result, but proof of collective work. Farmers are at the forefront, and the government is here to ensure they receive full support,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of gratitude for the abundant harvest. According to him, agricultural prosperity should also strengthen social solidarity and community support.
With this momentum, Baharudin said Tulungagung would continue to strengthen its status as a national food barn. The regency is also expected to help maintain rice supply stability in East Java and across Indonesia.
