BLITAR – Sentul Circuit Blitar will soon accommodate both drag race and road race events as the city government moves forward with a Rp 4 billion renovation plan.

Blitar City officials have designed the circuit as a multifunctional track to meet growing public interest in motorsports. The project also aims to provide structured training space for young racers in the region.

Blitar Mayor Syauqul Muhibbin said the circuit features a straight track of approximately 500 meters. That length meets the minimum 400-meter standard required for drag racing competitions.

“For drag, the minimum is 400 meters, and this track is sufficient. The total length also reaches around 1.2 kilometers, so it can support circuit racing as well,” he said on Wednesday (March 4).

The full track spans about 1.2 kilometers, which allows organizers to hold road race events in addition to drag races. With this dual-purpose concept, the city expects the venue to serve both competitive and training needs.

According to the mayor, the circuit will not operate only during official championships. Instead, authorities plan to open it for daily practice sessions and community activities.

“The circuit will not only host championships. Racers can also use it for routine training,” he added.

City officials believe Blitar holds strong potential in motorsports. High public enthusiasm and the emergence of young talent encouraged the government to design the track with flexibility in mind.

The Blitar City Government has allocated Rp 4 billion for the renovation of Sentul Circuit Blitar. Construction work is scheduled to begin after the Eid holiday.

Once renovations are complete, authorities will rename the facility Bung Karno Circuit. The new name reflects Blitar’s historical connection to Indonesia’s first president.

Mayor Syauqul, widely known as Mas Ibin, expressed hope that the upgraded circuit will nurture future racing athletes. In addition, he expects motorsport events to stimulate the local economy through competitions and automotive gatherings.

As preparations move forward, Sentul Blitar Circuit was designated as the center for motorsport development in the region.
