TRENGGALEK – Residents and motorists in Trenggalek are raising concerns over the condition of the Trenggalek-Bendungan road, where damaged pavement and limited street lighting continue to threaten road safety.
The affected section stretches from Ngares Village in Trenggalek District to Srabah Village in Bendungan District. Drivers frequently encounter uneven asphalt patches, potholes, and dark road sections during nighttime travel.
Local residents say the poor road condition has become increasingly dangerous, especially because several areas lack adequate public street lighting.
Many sections remain completely dark at night, particularly in areas far from residential settlements. The limited visibility forces motorists to drive more carefully while navigating the route.
The situation becomes even riskier because the road crosses hilly terrain with many sharp bends and curves.
Bambang, a local resident who regularly uses the road, said he experiences the impact of the damaged infrastructure almost every day.
“I feel the impact directly because this is the main access road,” Bambang said.
According to him, damaged pavement and poor lighting often create dangerous conditions for both local residents and drivers from outside the area.
“At night the road becomes very dark. There are some street lights, but only at a few points and near villages. After that, the road turns dark again,” he explained.
Residents say many people depend on the Trenggalek-Bendungan road for transportation and daily activities. The condition therefore affects workers, students, and motorists traveling between districts.
Several motorists have also urged local authorities to improve both the road surface and the public lighting system before accidents occur.
Bambang hopes the government will prioritize repairs on the damaged road sections and install additional street lights along the route.
“At least repair the damaged sections first. Some potholes received temporary patches, but we still need more lighting so the road does not stay dark,” he said.
The road condition has become a growing concern for residents because traffic remains active during the evening and early morning hours.
Drivers traveling through the area are now advising others to reduce speed and remain alert, especially during nighttime journeys.
Authorities have not yet announced a full repair schedule for the Trenggalek-Bendungan road. However, residents continue calling for faster action to improve safety along one of the region’s important transportation routes.
