TULUNGAGUNG – The local government has accelerated Tulungagung road repairs during Ramadan to prepare for the surge of travel expected during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming season.

Officials say the repairs focus on several strategic road sections across the regency. As a result, authorities aim to ensure residents can travel safely and comfortably during the holiday period.

The Tulungagung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) has already started work on four road segments. These include Pulosari–Bukur, Gragalan–Podorejo, Ngunut–Doroampel, and Boyolangu–Sanggrahan.

Meanwhile, the agency plans to begin construction on three additional road sections next week. These projects will cover Ngunut–Podorejo, Bendilwungu–Wates, and Junjung–Wajakkidul.

With these efforts, the government expects the roads to remain accessible during the Eid holiday, when traffic across Tulungagung typically rises sharply.

Ahmad Rifai Sodik, Head of the Highways Division at the Tulungagung PUPR Agency, said construction teams will soon begin asphalt paving at one of the sites.

“Our team plans to spread AC-BC hotmix asphalt at the Pulosari–Bukur road section,” Sodik said on Wednesday.

However, the project still depends heavily on weather conditions. Rainfall can delay asphalt work because crews cannot carry out paving during wet conditions.

“For now, weather is our biggest obstacle. When it rains, we must stop the asphalt work,” he explained.

Nevertheless, the agency remains committed to ensuring the roads can be used during the Eid celebrations. After the holiday ends, construction teams will return to continue the improvements.

Through the acceleration of Tulungagung road repairs, local authorities hope to support smoother traffic during both the Eid homecoming and return flows, when mobility across the region reaches its yearly peak.
