BLITAR – A South Kalimantan man was found dead in a bamboo grove in Blitar Regency after police suspected he took his own life following personal relationship problems.
The incident shocked residents of Buneng Hamlet in Boro Village, Selorejo District, on Wednesday evening after locals discovered the body hanging among dense bamboo trees.
Blitar Police spokesperson Syaiful Muheni said officers received the first report from residents at around 5:30 p.m. Local police and forensic investigators immediately went to the scene to conduct an investigation.
The victim, identified only by the initial S, came from Liang Anggang District in Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan.
“Based on information from the family, the victim allegedly faced relationship problems. However, the details remain unclear,” Muheni said.
Family members told investigators that the 50-year-old man rarely shared personal struggles with others. Police believe emotional stress may have contributed to the incident.
After arriving at the location, officers from the Selorejo Police Sector and the Blitar Police forensic identification unit examined the crime scene and checked the victim’s body.
Investigators found no signs of violence or physical abuse during the initial medical examination. Police concluded that the man most likely died by suicide.
“Officers received a report about a resident found dead by hanging in the middle of a bamboo grove. Police immediately went to the location to verify the report,” Muheni explained.
Authorities also learned that the victim had lived temporarily at a resident’s home in Buneng Hamlet. He reportedly no longer owned a private house after selling his property some time ago.
Residents in the area described the victim as quiet and reserved during his stay in the village.
Police said the family has accepted the death as a tragedy and does not want further legal proceedings related to the case.
The incident has drawn public attention in Selorejo, especially because the victim came from outside the region and had been living with local residents.
Authorities have completed the initial investigation and handed the case over to the family for burial arrangements.
