RADAR TULUNGAGUNG – The Madiun job fair in East Java attracted thousands of job seekers on Friday as the local government opened access to around 15,000 vacancies from 49 companies, aiming to reduce unemployment and create wider employment opportunities for young workers and fresh graduates across the region.
The large-scale recruitment event took place at Pendopo Ronggo Jumeno in Madiun, where crowds of applicants queued at company booths from early morning. Most attendees were residents of Madiun Regency and neighboring areas, with many recent graduates hoping to secure their first full-time jobs amid tightening competition in Indonesia’s labor market.
Local authorities said the Madiun job fair was designed not only to connect employers with job seekers but also to address persistent unemployment concerns in the regency. Officials estimated that more than 4,500 people attended the event during the day, reflecting strong public demand for employment opportunities.
Thousands Compete for Jobs at Madiun Recruitment Event
The job fair featured companies from multiple regions, including East Java and Kalimantan, offering positions in administration, manufacturing, services, and other sectors. Organizers stated that recruitment needs varied significantly between firms, with some companies seeking hundreds of employees while others aimed to hire as many as 2,000 workers.
One female applicant interviewed during the event said she had submitted three applications, primarily targeting administrative positions aligned with her educational background.
“I hope I get accepted,” she said while waiting near one of the recruitment booths.
The atmosphere inside Pendopo Ronggo Jumeno remained crowded throughout the event as applicants moved between company stands carrying folders containing resumes and certificates. Many participants were young adults seeking stable incomes shortly after graduation.
Officials said the recruitment drive was especially important because many local job seekers often struggle to access direct hiring opportunities without traveling outside the region. By bringing dozens of companies into one venue, the government hoped to simplify the recruitment process for both employers and applicants.
49 Companies Offer Around 15,000 Vacancies
According to organizers, the Madiun job fair involved 49 participating companies from various industries. The total number of available positions reached approximately 15,000, making it one of the largest employment events recently held in the regency.
Government representatives noted that participating firms came not only from Madiun but also from nearby cities such as Pasuruan and Ngawi, as well as companies operating in Kalimantan. The diversity of employers created opportunities for applicants with different educational backgrounds and skill sets.
An official at the event said many companies reported high labor demand.
“Some companies need around 200 or 300 workers, and some even require up to 2,000 employees,” the official explained.
The event also highlighted the growing challenge faced by regional governments in absorbing new entrants into the labor market. Indonesia continues to see increasing numbers of graduates entering the workforce each year, particularly in urban and industrial regions across Java.
Employment fairs have become one of the most common strategies used by local administrations to connect businesses with available workers while reducing unemployment rates at the regional level.
Local Government Targets Lower Unemployment in Madiun
The Government of Madiun Regency said the initiative forms part of a broader effort to expand employment access and improve economic conditions for residents.
Officials expressed hope that the large number of vacancies would help job seekers secure immediate employment while encouraging companies to recruit more local workers. The government also emphasized the importance of maintaining collaboration with private-sector employers to create sustainable labor opportunities.
The strong turnout demonstrated the urgent need for employment among young Indonesians, particularly fresh graduates entering an increasingly competitive market. Many attendees viewed the event as a rare opportunity to meet recruiters directly and submit applications without relying solely on online platforms.
Authorities said similar recruitment programs may continue in the future as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the local economy and reduce unemployment pressure in Madiun Regency.
For thousands of applicants who crowded the venue, the event represented more than a recruitment drive, it was a chance to secure financial stability and begin building long-term careers.
