One of the most famous stories involves a painting of Nyi Roro Kidul that allegedly appears alive to guests. Several people claimed the eyes in the painting seemed to move and follow visitors around the room.

Traditional rituals are still regularly performed along the South Coast, especially during the Javanese New Year and the sacred night of Suro.
