RADAR TRENGGALEK – Operation Keselamatan Semeru 2026 has resulted in 400 traffic violations during its first week, as Trenggalek Police step up road safety enforcement across the regency.

The 14-day operation began on February 2 and will continue until February 15. Police deployed at least 60 officers to strengthen monitoring and improve compliance with traffic regulations.

Head of Traffic Unit AKP Sony Suhartanto said the operation focuses on three core strategies: preemptive outreach, preventive measures, and firm law enforcement.

“We prioritize preemptive, preventive, and enforcement actions during Operation Keselamatan Semeru 2026,” Sony said on Wednesday.

Officers issue tickets through manual enforcement and Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE), including both static and mobile systems. They also give verbal and written warnings, while logging digital reprimands into the Indonesian National Police’s Presisi application.

“In the past week, we have taken action against around 400 violations through static ETLE, mobile ETLE, and manual ticketing,” Sony said.

Police conduct manual enforcement using a hunting system. Patrol units identify visible violations and immediately stop offenders in the field.

Police data show that underage riders account for the highest number of violations. Officers frequently stop motorists who fail to wear helmets or carry more than one passenger on a motorcycle.

“Underage riders remain the dominant violators. We also continue to find people riding without helmets and carrying more than two passengers,” Sony explained.

Authorities detect violations across most areas of Trenggalek Regency, especially along main roads and in sub-district centers. Gandusari, Durenan, and Suruh currently report the highest number of cases.

Despite firm enforcement, police continue to emphasize education. Officers run outreach campaigns alongside traffic monitoring to encourage voluntary compliance.

“For example, if we conduct 20 preventive activities, we carry out around 10 enforcement actions. We maintain balance between education and law enforcement,” Sony said.

Police report a downward trend in traffic accidents during Operation Keselamatan Semeru 2026. Authorities credit increased patrols and public awareness efforts for the improvement.

Sony urged residents to prioritize safety and respect traffic rules.

“The road belongs to everyone. We must follow the rules and protect each other’s safety,” he said.
