RADAR TRENGGALEK – Surodakan Terminal passengers increased by about 30% during the extended Lunar New Year public holiday, reflecting stronger regional mobility across Trenggalek, East Java.
The surge appeared across both departure and arrival areas at Surodakan Terminal. Bus movements became noticeably busier than on normal days. Nevertheless, terminal operations continued on regular schedules without service adjustments.
Terminal head Devi Ariandi said the increase began early in the holiday period as residents started traveling for family visits and personal trips.
“Passenger numbers rose by around 30% due to the Lunar New Year collective leave,” he said.
On ordinary days, about 600 passengers use the terminal. During the holiday stretch, daily traffic reached roughly 900 travelers. Both arrivals and departures showed similar growth, indicating balanced inbound and outbound movement.
Most Surodakan Terminal passengers traveled on short-distance intercity routes within East Java. Surabaya remained the most popular destination, followed by several secondary cities across the province.
According to terminal officials, these trips mainly related to family gatherings, employment needs, and routine activities that residents postponed until the long holiday. As a result, regional connectivity demand rose rather than long-haul travel.
Despite the higher volume, authorities kept terminal services running normally. Staff continued routine supervision across platforms, ticketing zones, and waiting areas.
Officials also monitored bus circulation to prevent congestion during peak hours. They said the increase still fell within operational capacity, allowing passenger handling to remain smooth and orderly.
Transport officials noted that Surodakan Terminal passengers typically increase during major public holidays, including Lunar New Year, Eid, and year-end breaks. However, this year’s rise aligned closely with the national collective leave period, which extended travel time for many workers.
They expect passenger numbers to gradually return to normal once the holiday ends and routine work schedules resume across the region.
