RADAR TRENGGALEK – A Trenggalek house fire broke out shortly after midnight on Thursday, destroying a kitchen and causing an estimated Rp 50 million (around $3,000) in losses, local authorities said.

The fire struck a home in the Griya Damai Bukit Asri B27 housing complex in Karangsoko Village, Trenggalek District, at around 1:20 a.m. The property belongs to 57-year-old resident Bambang Ismoyo.

Head of the Trenggalek Public Order Agency and Fire Department (Satpol PPK), Habib Solehudin, confirmed the incident.

Firefighters received the emergency call at 1:28 a.m. Within one minute, personnel mobilized and headed to the scene. They arrived seven minutes later.

Crews began extinguishing the flames at 1:35 a.m. and brought the fire under control by approximately 2:36 a.m. In total, firefighters used around 10,000 liters of water during the operation.

Authorities deployed 11 personnel along with two fire engines — one pump truck and one water supply unit.

According to Habib, Haris Abid Sumaidi, the homeowner’s son, first noticed the fire. He was alone in the house at the time.

He woke up after hearing unusual noises coming from the kitchen. At the same time, neighbors knocked loudly on the door to alert him.

When he checked the kitchen, flames had already spread. Fortunately, he managed to escape through a window with the help of neighbors.

Officials reported no injuries or fatalities in the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that an electrical short circuit in the kitchen triggered the blaze. The fire severely damaged the 3-by-6-meter kitchen area.

Although the flames destroyed part of the house, firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other sections of the property.

Habib estimated total material losses at around Rp 50 million. However, the rapid response also saved assets worth approximately Rp 350 million, including the main structure of the house and other belongings.

Following the Trenggalek house fire, authorities urged residents to regularly inspect their home electrical systems.

“We remind residents to ensure that electrical installations meet safety standards and to avoid excessive wiring connections. Vigilance is especially important at night,” Habib said.

Local officials emphasized that proper maintenance and awareness remain key to preventing similar residential fires in the future.
