TULUNGAGUNG – The heavy rain flooding in Tulungagung has once again submerged a section of road in Tunggangri Village, raising concerns over poor drainage and recurring infrastructure issues.

Heavy rainfall hit the area around noon on April 22, causing water to pool along the road near the Tunggangri four-way intersection in front of the village hall. The water covered part of the roadway, forcing drivers to slow down, although traffic continued to move.

Tunggangri Village Head, Sri Lailatin, said the flooding likely results from an inadequate drainage system. She added that the road’s lower elevation makes it easier for rainwater to collect during heavy downpours.

“When heavy rain falls, water often gathers at this point. The drainage does not flow properly, and the road sits lower than nearby areas,” she said.

She noted that the problem occurs repeatedly, especially during periods of intense rainfall. Each time heavy rain hits, the same stretch of road experiences waterlogging.

Despite the conditions, motorcycles and cars can still pass through with caution. However, the standing water increases the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheeled vehicles.

The village government has begun reviewing the issue and plans to coordinate with relevant authorities. Officials aim to improve the drainage system and reduce the risk of future flooding.

“We will work on solutions so this does not keep happening whenever heavy rain occurs,” Sri Lailatin said.

Residents have urged authorities to act quickly. They hope improvements such as better drainage and raising the road level will prevent repeated flooding and improve safety.
