BLITAR – Blitar prison Eid remission has reduced prison terms for 326 inmates at Lapas Kelas IIB Blitar during this year’s Eid al-Fitr holiday, with two prisoners scheduled for immediate release after receiving sentence reductions.
Prison officials said the remission process began early in Ramadan, when administrators submitted proposals for eligible inmates. Authorities later received formal approval for the reductions.
Romi Novitrion, head of the Blitar correctional facility, said the prison will officially hand over the remissions during the Eid holiday so inmates can also feel part of the celebration.
“For this Eid al-Fitr remission, 326 inmates are receiving sentence reductions. Two of them will be released immediately after the deduction takes effect,” Romi said.
The prison scheduled the official handover for March 21, 2026. On that day, the two inmates who have completed all legal requirements will leave the facility and return to their families.
“They will receive the remission on March 21, God willing during Eid. The two inmates will go free that same day,” he said.
Romi added that the prison recently granted a separate special remission for inmates observing Nyepi.
Only five inmates received sentence cuts under that religious holiday program because the number of Hindu prisoners in the facility remains limited.
He said remission programs serve not only as legal incentives but also as part of rehabilitation efforts inside the prison.
According to Romi, inmates who maintain discipline and show consistent good behavior deserve recognition through reduced prison terms.
“This remission reflects government appreciation for inmates who follow the rules and show positive change during their sentence,” he said.
The prison administration expects the policy to encourage inmates to continue improving their conduct and prepare for reintegration after release.
