BLITAR – Blitar City Government has started the elementary school admissions process for the 2026 academic year, offering 1,708 seats across 48 public schools.
The new student admission system, known as SPMB, officially began on May 11 with the account registration stage for prospective students. Local education officials expect thousands of families to take part in the process this year.
Syahbana Tahta Wijaya, Head of Elementary Education Development at the Blitar City Education Office, said the first registration phase runs from May 11 to May 16. After that, applicants must upload documents and complete data verification before schools announce the final results.
“Registration started on May 11 with the account creation process. Afterward, applicants continue with verification and document uploads until the final announcement stage,” Syahbana said on Tuesday.
According to the Education Office, 48 public elementary schools in Blitar City will participate in this year’s admissions process. Authorities have prepared around 61 study groups, locally known as rombel, to accommodate new students.
The city government said total enrollment capacity for public elementary schools this year reaches 1,708 students. In addition, officials designed the system to distribute students more evenly across schools in different districts.
Blitar applies three admission pathways for public elementary schools. The city allocates the largest quota through the domicile route, which accounts for 80 percent of total seats.
Meanwhile, authorities reserve 15 percent for the affirmative pathway and 5 percent for the transfer pathway. Officials use the affirmative pathway to support students from specific social backgrounds or families who qualify for government assistance programs.
The transfer pathway mainly serves children whose parents moved because of work assignments or other special reasons. “The transfer pathway is intended for students who follow their parents’ job relocation and several other conditions,” Syahbana explained.
Furthermore, the next stages of the SPMB process include residential location corrections, document submissions, and administrative verification. The Education Office plans to announce the final selection results on June 8, 2026.
Authorities hope the entire admissions process will run smoothly and transparently. The city government also pledged to carry out each stage according to national education regulations.
The elementary school admissions process remains one of the most important annual education programs in Blitar. The program determines student distribution and classroom capacity for the upcoming academic year.
