JAKARTA – Maxwell Sosa made a strong return for Persija Jakarta during the club’s 3-1 victory over Persik Kediri, helping Mauricio Souza’s side deliver one of their most dynamic attacking performances of the season.
Maxwell Sosa Adds Energy to Persija’s Front Line
After missing the previous match, Maxwell Sosa returned with visible determination and quickly became one of Persija’s most dangerous attacking threats.
The Brazilian striker constantly pressured Persik Kediri’s defensive line with aggressive runs and intelligent positioning. His movement helped create more space for teammates, especially during counterattacking situations.
Although Sosa did not score, he produced one of the most exciting moments of the game after dribbling past two defenders before narrowly missing a clear opportunity. The sequence highlighted his pace, technical ability, and confidence in one-on-one situations.
Persija’s attacking structure appeared significantly more fluid with Sosa back in the lineup. His presence gave the team additional variety and improved the effectiveness of transitions from midfield into attack.
Coach Mauricio Souza relied heavily on quick vertical play throughout the match, a strategy that suited Sosa’s strengths perfectly.
Persija Capitalize on Defensive Weaknesses
The match itself developed into an entertaining tactical battle as both teams used attacking 4-3-3 systems. Persik Kediri initially looked dangerous through aggressive pressing and wide attacking combinations.
However, Persija gradually gained control by targeting weaknesses in Persik’s defensive organization, particularly during aerial duels and transition moments.
All three of Persija’s goals came from headers, emphasizing the visitors’ effectiveness in exploiting crossing situations. Jordi Amat opened the scoring before Gustavo later added two more goals.
The introduction of Gustavo and Van Basty in the second half proved decisive. Van Basty delivered dangerous crosses repeatedly, while Gustavo’s positioning inside the penalty area created constant problems for the home defense.
Persik struggled to recover once Persija increased the pace of transitions. Every defensive mistake from the home side immediately created dangerous counterattacking opportunities.
Goalkeeper Andritany also contributed significantly by organizing the defense effectively during periods of pressure from Persik Kediri.
Mauricio Souza Builds Momentum Ahead of New Season
The result generated renewed optimism surrounding Mauricio Souza’s project at Persija Jakarta. After facing criticism earlier in the season, the Brazilian coach received praise for the team’s tactical discipline and attacking efficiency.
Supporters particularly welcomed the return of Maxwell Sosa because of ongoing speculation surrounding his future at the club. Rumors linking the striker with rival clubs have intensified in recent weeks, making his performance even more closely watched.
Despite the transfer speculation, Sosa looked fully committed and actively involved throughout the match. His chemistry with other attacking players suggested Persija could become even stronger if the squad remains intact.
The victory also reinforced Persija’s growing reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous teams in transition play. Quick counters, accurate crossing, and clinical finishing became defining features of the performance.
For Persik Kediri, the defeat exposed major concerns regarding defensive concentration and aerial defending. The home side created moments of pressure but failed to maintain consistency after falling behind.
As preparations begin for the next stage of competition, Persija supporters now hope the team can maintain this level of intensity and tactical organization in future matches.
