TULUNGAGUNG – Strong winds in Tulungagung damaged 91 homes across four villages on Tuesday afternoon, local disaster officials confirmed. The storm swept through several districts, tearing off rooftops and disrupting residential areas. Despite the damage, authorities reported no injuries or fatalities.
The powerful gusts began around 2:30 p.m. local time, as light rain fell across parts of the regency. The sudden weather shift caught many residents off guard. Local officials quickly collected preliminary data and assessed the scale of destruction.
Sudarmaji, Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tulungagung Regency, said the agency recorded 91 lightly damaged houses as of 11:00 p.m. “Strong winds hit several sub-districts. We have documented 91 homes with minor damage, and thankfully no casualties,” he said.
Boyolangu District experienced the most significant damage. In Tanjungsari Village, strong winds ripped through Tanjungsari hamlet and damaged 38 houses, mostly affecting rooftops.
Residents reported that the wind lifted roof tiles and scattered debris across yards and nearby streets. Local authorities coordinated with village officials to verify the damage and assist affected households.
Meanwhile, in Kedungwaru District, the storm struck Plosokandang Village. Officials recorded damage to five houses in Srigading hamlet and one house in Kudusan hamlet.
Sumbergempol District also felt the impact. In Sambirobyong Village, nine homes in Centong hamlet and five in Pedan hamlet sustained minor damage. Meanwhile, in Sumberdadi Village, the winds affected 17 houses in Selojeneng hamlet and 16 houses in Gempol hamlet.
Most of the damage involved roofing materials blown away by strong gusts. Authorities classified all cases as minor structural damage.
BPBD Tulungagung deployed response teams immediately after receiving reports from residents. Officers visited affected locations, documented damage, and coordinated with local authorities.
The agency also intensified monitoring efforts in disaster-prone areas across the regency. Officials continue to track weather developments as unstable atmospheric conditions persist during the rainy season.
Sudarmaji urged residents to remain alert, especially those whose homes lost roof coverings. He encouraged them to carry out temporary repairs to prevent further damage from potential follow-up rain.
“Weather conditions can change quickly. We ask residents to stay cautious and report any emergency situation immediately,” he said.
The strong winds in Tulungagung add to a series of extreme weather events affecting parts of East Java in recent weeks. Local authorities now emphasize preparedness as unpredictable weather patterns continue across the region.
