RADAR TULUNGAGUNG – Madura porridge takjil has emerged as a popular Ramadan snack option in Tulungagung, attracting curious passersby and loyal customers to a small street stall on Wahidin Sudirohusodo Road.

The dish, rarely found in the town, stands out among typical sweet porridge varieties sold locally. Vendor Lintang said the richer coconut milk flavor distinguishes Madura porridge from common jenang-style desserts.

“Madura porridge has a more savory coconut taste compared with regular sweet porridge,” Lintang said at the stall.

The porridge features a soft texture combined with toppings such as tapioca pearls and candil dumplings in a single bowl. The mix creates a familiar sweetness while offering a distinctive taste profile.

According to Lintang, the recipe is not drastically different from local sweet porridge. However, the portion of toppings is more generous, making the flavor richer and more satisfying.

“It’s actually quite similar, but usually we add more banana,” Lintang explained.

Lintang prepares around 30 servings daily to meet demand. Although the stall operates year-round at the same location, customer traffic rises sharply during Ramadan.

As sunset approaches, buyers arrive one after another. Some stop out of curiosity, while others return as repeat customers who already know the taste.

“About 30 portions are usually enough, especially when afternoons get busy,” Lintang added.
