TRENGGALEK – A pothole-damaged road in Trenggalek has triggered a police safety response after officers identified 52 hazardous نقاط along the Sumberingin–Ngetal corridor following several single-vehicle crashes linked to road defects.
Traffic officers from Trenggalek Police surveyed the 9.1-kilometer stretch connecting the Sumberingin intersection in Karangan district with the Ngetal T-junction near Gandusari. The assessment followed public complaints about accidents involving riders who struck deep potholes along the route.
“We deployed our road safety unit to map the damage and found 52 pothole and road-failure points,” said traffic chief AKP Sony Suhartanto, speaking for Trenggalek Police Chief AKBP Ridwan Maliki.
Officers recorded potholes of varying size across the corridor. The largest measured about two meters wide and up to 15 centimeters deep. Police confirmed that several crashes had already occurred on the damaged section.
The hazards pose particular danger to motorcyclists, who dominate local traffic. Risk rises during rain because standing water can hide the holes and reduce visibility.
“This condition is dangerous, especially for two-wheel riders. During rain, water covers the potholes so drivers cannot see them,” Sony said.
As an immediate safety step, police marked each damaged point with phosphorescent white paint to improve visibility at night and during wet weather. The markings aim to warn drivers until repairs take place.
Police will forward the mapping results to relevant public-works agencies to accelerate patching and resurfacing. Officers also urged motorists to slow down and remain cautious when passing the damaged sections.
“We have mapped and marked the hazards. Next, we will coordinate with the responsible agencies for repairs. Meanwhile, road users should stay alert,” Sony said.
