RADAR BLITAR – The Blitar Skate Mania community has remained a vibrant youth hub in Blitar since the early 2000s. Founded by skater Rudi Wibowo, the group initially served as a gathering space for skateboard enthusiasts. Over time, however, it evolved into a platform for learning, training, and competition.
Today, the community continues to attract members from across Blitar city and regency. As a result, it has become one of the region’s most enduring grassroots skate groups.
Unlike many sports clubs, Blitar Skate Mania operates without a formal leadership hierarchy. Instead, members prioritize togetherness and flexibility. Senior member Yusuf Prawiranegara said the relaxed structure helps newcomers feel comfortable.
“It feels like hanging out,” he said. “But when events or competitions come, we coordinate easily.”
Therefore, the community maintains cohesion while avoiding rigid organization.
Moreover, the Blitar Skate Mania community welcomes participants of all ages and backgrounds. Members range from elementary school children to adults. During large events, attendance can exceed 50 skaters.
Beginners receive basic training from experienced members. No prior skills are required. “We teach skateboarding fundamentals first. What matters is the desire to learn and improve,” Yusuf explained.
In addition to daily afternoon practice, members often conduct “check spot” sessions across public spaces such as city parks and town squares. These activities allow skaters to explore new terrains and build confidence.
The group regularly joins regional competitions, many organized under Indonesia’s roller sports federation Perserosi. Each year, the community also celebrates Go Skateboarding Day on June 21, selecting different locations across Blitar for the event.
Ultimately, Blitar Skate Mania represents more than sport. The community provides a creative space where young people develop identity and personal style through skate culture.
Members hope local government support will grow in the future. Specifically, they seek better skate facilities and more frequent local events. Such backing, they believe, would strengthen Blitar’s youth creative ecosystem and sustain the long-standing skate community.
