RADAR TULUNGAGUNG – Ahmad Yani East Alley 5 traffic rules in Tulungagung have entered a one-month trial phase, restricting cars from turning north through the narrow access road to ease congestion and improve road safety.

The Tulungagung Transportation Agency installed new signs banning four-wheeled vehicles from entering the alley toward the north. Only motorcycles may use the route during the trial, said Panji Putranto, head of traffic management at the local agency.

“We placed prohibition signs at the alley entrance so drivers understand the new rule,” he said.

Officials introduced the scheme after evaluating vehicle flow that frequently caused bottlenecks at the junction, especially during peak hours. By limiting larger vehicles, the agency aims to create smoother movement and reduce accident risks in the busy urban corridor.

Authorities will monitor and assess traffic patterns throughout the trial. If results show improvement, the government may adopt the restriction permanently. Officials urged motorists to follow posted signs for shared road safety.

However, some violations continue. Dimas, a local motorist, said drivers still ignore the restriction despite the signage. “People still force their way through. Even cars enter although the sign is already there,” he said.

He added that congestion often stretches toward the Tulungagung Police Station area after 4 p.m., when residents search for iftar food. He also called for clearer sidewalks and zebra crossings to protect schoolchildren crossing the busy road.
