TULUNGAGUNG – The long-awaited final section of the Brumbun-Sine Southern Coastal Road has officially opened to the public, marking a major milestone in East Java’s transportation network. However, authorities continue to prohibit heavy vehicles from using the route as road safety facilities and supporting infrastructure remain under final adjustments.

The East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) reported that construction on the Brumbun-Sine Lot 1A section has reached 100 percent. The 9.55-kilometer route has welcomed motorcycles and passenger vehicles since May 29.

Sumiran, Field Coordinator of PPK 2.6 South Coast Road Project 1 at BBPJN East Java-Bali, said residents can already use the new road. Even so, officials continue to limit access for large trucks and other heavy vehicles.

“The project has reached full completion. Motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles have used the road since May 29,” Sumiran said.

Crews are still installing several safety features along the corridor. Workers continue to add street lights, safety barriers, traffic equipment, and other supporting facilities.

As a result, authorities have not yet approved the road for heavy vehicles. Officials want to ensure that every safety feature functions properly before lifting the restriction.

“There are still finishing works, including lighting and road accessories. We will allow heavy vehicles only after we complete those improvements and finish safety evaluations,” Sumiran explained.

The Brumbun-Sine section also remains under a maintenance period. During this stage, the contractor monitors road conditions and fixes any defects that appear after opening.

Sumiran said the public can already travel through the route. Meanwhile, crews continue minor improvements to achieve the final project standard.

Field observations showed workers active at several locations along the road. They painted road facilities, installed safety equipment, and improved supporting infrastructure.

Authorities urged motorists to stay alert while using the new route. Construction activity remains visible at several points along the corridor.

The heavy vehicle restriction will continue until crews finish all safety installations. Authorities will review the road again before allowing larger vehicles to enter.

Once officials complete the final checks, the Brumbun-Sine Southern Coastal Road will serve as the last link of the Southern Cross Route. The project will strengthen connectivity and improve transportation access across southern East Java.
