TRENGGALEK – Trenggalek ice factory revamp has become a top priority as the local government seeks to restore production capacity and support the region’s fisheries sector. Officials aim to modernize aging machinery to unlock the facility’s full potential.

The ice factory, located in Tasikmadu Village, Watulimo District, remains the only surviving business unit under the regional enterprise PDAU. However, its current condition has raised concerns due to declining performance and outdated equipment.

Agus Subchi, head of the Economic and Natural Resources Subdivision at the Trenggalek Regional Secretariat, said the government will focus on replacing production machines. “Our priority is to repair and upgrade the factory’s machinery so production can return to optimal levels,” he said.

At present, limited capacity has prevented the facility from meeting market demand. As a result, the government sees modernization as a necessary step to boost output and efficiency. “Once the machines operate properly, production will increase and revenue will follow,” Agus explained.

Demand for ice remains strong, particularly from fishermen and fish processing industries in coastal areas. Therefore, improving production could directly support local economic activity. “The demand from fishermen and processing industries is high. This is an opportunity we must maximize,” he added.

Through this strategy, the government expects PDAU to regain financial stability and contribute more significantly to regional revenue. In addition, stronger performance could create broader economic benefits for surrounding communities.

Despite these plans, officials have ruled out immediate expansion into new business sectors. Instead, the administration will concentrate on strengthening existing operations before considering further growth.

“We do not want to rush into new ventures. For now, we will optimize what we already have,” Agus said.

The revamp also aligns with existing regional regulations governing PDAU operations. By focusing on efficiency and productivity, the government hopes to turn the ice factory into a reliable and sustainable asset for Trenggalek’s economy.
