BLITAR – Blitar Sport Center expansion will move ahead in 2026 as the city government responds to a surge in visitors that has overwhelmed the existing jogging track.

City officials report that the current 360-meter track no longer meets demand, especially during peak hours in the morning and late afternoon when crowds fill the area.

According to Heru Eko Pramono, acting head of Blitar’s Youth and Sports Agency, the increase in visitors has forced the city to act.
“Visitor numbers keep rising, so the current track can no longer accommodate everyone,” he said.

The city plans to extend the jogging track to around 600 meters, nearly doubling its current length. Officials expect the longer track to reduce crowding and improve comfort for runners and walkers.

The Blitar city government has allocated about Rp 660 million (around $40,000) in the 2026 regional budget to fund the project. The budget covers planning, supervision, and implementation.

In addition, Heru expects the upgraded facility to encourage more residents to exercise regularly. With more space available, users will likely feel more comfortable and less crowded.

The project reflects a growing trend in urban Indonesia, where local governments invest in accessible outdoor fitness facilities to support healthier lifestyles.
