TULUNGAGUNG – Damaged public facilities at the city forest park in Tulungagung have sparked concern among residents. Local authorities now plan gradual repairs to restore comfort and safety across the popular public space.
Several areas inside the urban forest park in Ketanon Village show visible signs of deterioration. The damage affects children’s playground equipment, pedestrian paths, and sections of the jogging track. Many residents use the park every day for exercise and family activities.
The city forest has become one of Tulungagung’s busiest green spaces over the years. Families often gather there in the morning and afternoon. Joggers and cyclists also regularly visit the area because of its open environment and shaded walking paths.
Reni Fatmawati, head of environmental management at the Tulungagung Environmental Agency, said some facilities have entered a critical condition and require repairs soon.
“Many of the playground facilities are damaged,” Reni said on Monday.
According to her, several playground structures no longer provide safe conditions for children. Officials have started monitoring the damaged areas while preparing renovation plans.
Reni also highlighted problems along the jogging track and pedestrian lanes. Large tree roots have pushed parts of the track upward, creating uneven surfaces in several sections. Long-term weather exposure has worsened the condition over time.
“The jogging track also needs improvement,” she added.
Uneven pathways now reduce visitor comfort and create safety concerns for people who use the park for exercise. Some residents have reportedly complained about the deteriorating facilities in recent months.
Despite the damage, the city forest remains crowded during weekends and holidays. Many residents still choose the park because it offers one of the few large green open spaces in the area.
Local authorities believe repairs could help attract even more visitors in the future. Officials hope improved facilities will create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for residents of all ages.
“If the facilities improve and the area becomes more comfortable, more people will likely visit,” Reni explained.
Meanwhile, acting head of the Tulungagung Environmental Agency Anang Pratistianto confirmed that the government has prepared a phased renovation program.
The agency plans to carry out repairs gradually because of budget limitations. Officials want to ensure that public facilities remain functional while the improvement process continues.
“We will carry out repairs gradually so the facilities remain suitable for public use,” Anang said.
He also urged residents to help maintain public facilities after the renovation work finishes. According to him, cooperation between the government and the community plays an important role in preserving public parks and green areas.
Authorities continue to promote urban parks as important spaces for recreation and environmental balance. Public green spaces also help strengthen social interaction among residents in growing urban areas.
“We are working to keep parks and public spaces comfortable for the community,” Anang added.
