TULUNGAGUNG – Extreme weather has become a key concern in Tulungagung as residents prepare for the Eid holiday. Local officials urged people to stay alert during the seasonal transition now affecting the region.
Authorities said the area has entered pancaroba, the period between the rainy and dry seasons. This phase usually brings unstable weather, with hot afternoons followed by sudden rain in the evening.
Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah Tulungagung chief Sudarmaji said the current weather pattern can change within hours. “We are now entering the seasonal transition. It is usually marked by hot days and rain in the late afternoon,” he said.
He explained that rainfall during this period often comes heavily but does not last long. Strong winds and lightning often appear at the same time, creating extra risks for residents outdoors.
“Rain during pancaroba is usually intense but short. It often comes with strong winds and lightning,” Sudarmaji added. He also warned that hail may occur in certain areas, although it remains rare.
The agency asked residents to check weather conditions before leaving home. People should also avoid standing under trees or weak structures during storms.
Officials also highlighted health risks during the transition season. Pools of standing water can increase mosquito breeding and raise dengue fever cases.
Sudarmaji said dengue often appears during unstable weather because rain leaves many small water pockets. He urged families to clean water containers around their homes regularly.
Cold nights and sudden temperature shifts may also trigger flu and cough. Officials therefore advised residents to maintain their health during the busy Eid period.
Travel and outdoor activity usually rise before Eid in Tulungagung. Because of that, local authorities asked people to stay cautious and adjust plans when weather conditions worsen.
As prevention, residents should drain water storage areas, cover containers, and remove unused items that collect rainwater. Officials hope these steps will reduce both disaster risks and seasonal illness during Eid.
