BLITAR – Blitar city government has prepared around Rp 2 billion (about $120,000) to renovate several facilities at Sumber Udel Waterpark this year as officials seek to improve visitor comfort and strengthen the city’s tourism appeal.

The renovation project will target several facilities inside the popular tourist destination that have started showing signs of wear after years of heavy use.

The project will target several facilities inside the tourism complex that have started showing signs of damage after years of use.

Acting Head of the Blitar Culture and Tourism Agency Rike Rochmawati said the government would focus on facilities that directly affect visitor safety and convenience.

“We plan to renovate the ceramic flooring and the waterboom area,” Rike said. “Several other facilities will also receive improvements, including the tribune and bridge.”

According to Rike, Sumber Udel remains one of the leading tourist attractions in Blitar City. Because of that, the administration wants to maintain the site’s quality and public appeal.

The waterpark attracts families, students, and local tourists throughout the year. Visitor numbers usually rise during weekends, school holidays, and national holidays.

Officials believe better facilities will help maintain the destination’s popularity. They also hope the upgrades will attract more visitors in the future.

“Since this is one of Blitar’s leading tourist destinations, we must continue maintaining the facilities properly,” Rike said. “We want visitors to feel comfortable when spending time here.”

The renovation plan currently remains in the technical planning stage. Authorities are still preparing the final design and reviewing details related to the construction process.

Rike explained that the final scope of the project could still change depending on the outcome of the planning process. However, the city has already identified several priority areas that urgently need upgrades.

“Those are the facilities included in the initial renovation plan,” she said. “Right now, we are still finalizing the technical preparation.”

The city government hopes the renovation project will improve tourism services across the area. Officials also expect the upgrades to strengthen Sumber Udel’s reputation as a major recreational destination in East Java.

Local authorities believe the project could also support economic activity around the tourism sector. Many small businesses in the area depend on visitor traffic from the waterpark.

In recent years, regional governments across Indonesia have increased efforts to improve tourism infrastructure. Many administrations see tourism as an important driver of local economic growth.

Blitar officials hope the renovation project will increase visitor satisfaction and help the city compete with other tourism destinations in East Java.

“After the renovation, we hope visitors will enjoy a better experience,” Rike said. “We also hope the tourism appeal of Sumber Udel continues to grow.”
