TULUNGAGUNG – Indonesia’s National Awakening Day, known locally as Harkitnas, should inspire students to continue learning and make meaningful contributions to the country, an education official in Tulungagung said.

Dian Pemilu Sari, head of the Tulungagung regional education office, said National Awakening Day remains highly relevant for young people as the future generation of Indonesia.

According to Dian, the annual commemoration reminds Indonesians about the sacrifices made by national figures during the struggle for independence. She said values such as unity, hard work, and dedication must continue to guide younger generations.

“National Awakening Day teaches the spirit of struggle. That spirit can inspire students to keep learning and pursue their goals,” she said.

Dian explained that the meaning of national awakening has expanded beyond historical reflection. Today, she believes the momentum also represents efforts to strengthen human resources through education and personal development.

She described students as one of the nation’s most important assets. Young people, she said, now have greater opportunities to improve their skills, gain knowledge, and prepare themselves as future leaders.

“Students are the pillars of hope for the country,” Dian added. “They have opportunities to develop themselves, study seriously, and prepare for leadership roles in the future.”

She also stressed that education should not stop at academic achievement alone. Instead, students should use their knowledge and abilities to create real contributions that support Indonesia’s progress.

Dian encouraged young people to become more innovative and creative while facing modern challenges. She also urged students to stay confident and take positive actions in daily life.

“Let us maintain unity and continue striving for goodness, both in education and everyday life,” she said.

The message comes as Indonesia marks another National Awakening Day on May 20. The annual event continues to serve as a reminder of the importance of national unity, education, and collective progress amid global competition and rapid social change.
