JAKARTA – East Lombok is rapidly becoming one of Indonesia’s most sought-after travel destinations as tourists discover untouched beaches, towering coastal cliffs, and crystal-clear waters that offer a quieter alternative to Bali’s increasingly crowded tourism areas.

Travel trends throughout 2025 and early 2026 show growing interest in remote destinations that combine natural beauty with adventure experiences. East Lombok’s coastline, filled with hidden islands and dramatic ocean landscapes, has emerged as one of the strongest examples of that trend.

Several beaches in the region have recently gone viral on social media platforms thanks to drone footage and travel photography showcasing the area’s untouched scenery.

Hidden Islands and Rare Pink Sand Draw Visitors

Among the most popular attractions is Gili Kondo, a small island located between Lombok and Sumbawa. The island offers white sandy beaches, calm turquoise waters, and coral reefs suitable for snorkeling and diving activities.

Tourists can also explore nearby islets by boat, creating a multi-island adventure experience within the region. The island’s peaceful atmosphere has become one of its biggest attractions, especially for travelers looking to avoid heavily commercialized tourism zones.

Meanwhile, Pantai Tangsi or Pink Beach continues attracting visitors due to its rare pink-colored shoreline. The phenomenon occurs naturally through the mixture of white sand and red coral particles along the coast.

The beach remains relatively isolated, requiring visitors to travel through rugged roads and remote landscapes before arriving at the shoreline. Tourism operators say the challenging access has helped preserve the area’s natural condition.

In addition to beach activities, nearby hills provide panoramic viewpoints overlooking the sea and surrounding coastline.

Coastal Cliffs and Adventure Tourism Continue Growing

Tanjung Ringgit has also become increasingly popular among photographers and adventure travelers because of its towering cliffs and untouched coastal scenery.

Large rock formations dominate the landscape while waves crash against the shoreline below. Visitors frequently stop along the cliffs to capture panoramic photographs of the Indian Ocean.

The area also contains caves inhabited by bats, giving travelers additional exploration opportunities beyond the beach itself.

Pantai Kaliantan offers a different experience with its long stretch of white sand and calmer atmosphere. The beach remains relatively quiet compared to Lombok’s more established tourism destinations.

Its strong winds and open shoreline have helped make the area a growing hotspot for kite surfing and other marine sports activities.

Tourism analysts believe destinations like Kaliantan are benefiting from changing traveler preferences that prioritize nature-focused tourism over luxury resort experiences.

Tanjung Beloam Emerges as Viral Photography Destination

One of the fastest-growing destinations in East Lombok is Tanjung Beloam, a coastal area famous for massive rock formations extending into the sea.

The unique geological structures create a natural bridge-like appearance, making the site extremely popular for landscape photography and drone videos.

Despite rough road access, tourists continue traveling to the area to experience its dramatic scenery firsthand. Many visitors consider the location one of the most visually impressive coastal spots in Indonesia.

Local tourism communities are now encouraging responsible tourism development to ensure the region’s natural environment remains protected as visitor numbers continue increasing.

Several destinations in East Lombok still lack large-scale commercial infrastructure, which many travelers see as part of the area’s charm.

However, tourism officials also continue warning visitors about strong ocean currents and steep cliff areas that require caution during exploration.

As Indonesia expands efforts to promote tourism beyond Bali, East Lombok’s hidden beaches and untouched landscapes are expected to play a larger role in attracting both domestic and international travelers seeking authentic tropical experiences.
