TULUNGAGUNG – Campurdarat Market revitalization plan in Tulungagung Regency remains uncertain. Local authorities continue to prioritize other development projects. As a result, the government only carries out routine maintenance at the traditional market.

Chair of Commission C of the Tulungagung Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Binti Luklukah, said the council has repeatedly pushed the government to prioritize the project. However, the plan has yet to move forward.

“We have proposed the budget for Campurdarat Market revitalization several times. But the government has not approved it yet,” Luklukah said recently.

She explained that several factors have delayed the program. These include administrative readiness and regional budget priorities.

The local government currently focuses on small repairs instead of a full renovation. Officials conduct routine maintenance each year to keep the market operational.

These repairs aim to maintain basic facilities and prevent further damage. However, they do not address the broader need for modernization.

As a result, many parts of the market still require significant improvement.

Local authorities have also sought support from Indonesia’s central government. Through the relevant regional agencies, officials submitted proposals to several ministries.

The proposal aims to secure funding for the Campurdarat Market revitalization project. However, the central government has not confirmed the funding so far.

“We have sent the proposal through the related agencies. But we still have no clear response,” Luklukah said.

Luklukah stressed that revitalizing the market would do more than improve buildings. The project could also strengthen the local economy.

Traditional markets remain important centers of economic activity in many Indonesian regions. Small traders and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) depend on these markets.

Because of this role, improving market infrastructure could help boost community income.

Commission C of the Tulungagung DPRD plans to continue advocating for the project. Lawmakers hope the government will include the Campurdarat Market revitalization in future development priorities.

Funding could come from the regional budget (APBD) or central government assistance.

“Our hope is to make the market more representative, comfortable, and safe. That way, economic activity can grow,” Luklukah said.
