BLITAR – Blitar road repairs program has intensified as local authorities prepare for the surge in traffic during the upcoming Eid homecoming season. Officials have prioritized key routes connecting districts and tourist destinations across Blitar Regency.

The local government has identified at least 14 road sections for urgent maintenance to improve travel safety and comfort for motorists during the holiday period.

Agus Zaenal said the quick response unit under the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office has started repairing damaged roads in several priority areas.

“To prepare for the Eid travel season, our team began repairs in the southern region based on reports from residents,” he said.

The maintenance work covers several major routes connecting Blitar with neighboring areas. These include the roads linking Blitar with Bakung, Tambakrejo, Tulungagung, Kediri through Nglegok, and Malang through Kesamben.

Authorities have also repaired several busy roads in urban areas where traffic density remains high.

According to Agus, the government currently focuses on patching damaged road surfaces using leftover materials from the 2025 procurement program.

Large-scale road construction projects will begin later because officials are still completing the procurement process for the 2026 fiscal year.

“For now, we are carrying out patchwork repairs using remaining materials from the 2025 procurement. Major construction will start after Eid once the procurement process is completed,” he said.

Besides preparing the main homecoming routes, the Blitar administration has also planned several infrastructure projects this year.

One project focuses on developing infrastructure in mining areas. Another aims to improve access roads leading to tourist destinations in the region.

The government has prepared concrete road construction projects in villages such as Candirejo and Karangrejo.

Agus said the Candirejo project has reached around 50 percent completion, and the government will continue the development in stages.

Meanwhile, the administration also plans to improve access roads to several beaches along the southern coast.

The upgrades will include routes from the Jalur Lintas Selatan to Pudak Beach and Tambakrejo Beach.
