BLITAR – Blitar administration will open free Eid al-Adha slaughter services at regional slaughterhouses this year. Officials want to ensure halal standards, food safety, and meat hygiene during the qurban season.
Local authorities are still finalizing regulations and technical preparations before the program officially starts.
The Blitar Livestock and Fisheries Agency said the free service could reduce independent animal slaughter in areas with poor sanitation standards.
Officials believe certified slaughterhouses can provide safer and cleaner meat processing. Veterinary officers will supervise every stage of the slaughter process.
Lusia Adityaningtyas, head of animal health and veterinary public health at the agency, said each animal will undergo health inspections before and after slaughter.
“Antemortem and postmortem examinations are important to ensure the meat distributed to residents is safe to consume,” Lusia said.
Officers will check the animals’ physical condition before slaughter begins. Teams will also inspect internal organs, especially the liver, to detect possible parasite infections.
Liver fluke infections still appear in some cattle in the region. Health officers will immediately discard infected organs if they find parasites during inspections.
“If officers find infected organs, they will remove the damaged parts so they do not circulate among the public,” she explained.
The regional government is currently seeking approval from the Blitar regent before implementing the free slaughter service policy.
Authorities hope the program can improve public awareness about food safety during Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Registration numbers at several slaughterhouses have started increasing ahead of the holiday.
Based on updated data from May 6, 2026, the Srengat slaughterhouse recorded the highest number of registrations in Blitar Regency.
The Srengat facility plans to handle six qurban animal slaughters on the first day of Eid al-Adha. Officials scheduled another 10 animals for the second day.
The Wlingi slaughterhouse will process around three to four qurban animals after the Eid prayer on the first day. The facility will handle two more animals on the following day.
Meanwhile, the Kademangan slaughterhouse plans to serve three qurban animal slaughters on the first day and two more on the second day.
The agency said centralized slaughter services can reduce the risk of disease transmission through improperly handled meat.
Authorities also encouraged residents to use certified slaughterhouses instead of carrying out slaughter activities in residential neighborhoods.
Officials stressed that hygienic slaughter procedures remain important because many families will consume and distribute qurban meat during the holiday.
The Blitar administration hopes the program can strengthen public trust in the safety and halal quality of sacrificial meat this year.
