BANDUNG – Bandung nature tourism continues to attract massive crowds throughout 2026 as travelers increasingly seek cool-weather destinations, scenic mountain landscapes, and outdoor experiences across Ciwidey and Pangalengan. Tourism operators report that nature-based attractions in southern Bandung have become some of the most visited locations among domestic tourists this year.
The trend reflects changing travel preferences among Indonesian travelers, many of whom now prioritize open-air tourism, Instagram-worthy scenery, and wellness-oriented vacations over crowded urban destinations. Attractions featuring volcanic craters, tea plantations, pine forests, and suspension bridges have particularly benefited from the tourism shift.
Ciwidey Emerges as Bandung’s Top Scenic Tourism Area
One of the strongest contributors to Bandung nature tourism growth is the Ciwidey region, located in southern Bandung. The area has become synonymous with cool temperatures, panoramic mountain views, and eco-tourism attractions.
Kawah Putih Ciwidey remains the region’s flagship destination. Known for its striking turquoise-white volcanic crater lake, the attraction draws thousands of visitors weekly, especially during weekends and public holidays. The destination operates daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with entrance fees reaching Rp63,000 per person, including shuttle transportation.
Travelers visiting Kawah Putih are advised to bring jackets and masks due to the area’s cold temperatures and sulfuric volcanic air. Tourism guides say the destination is particularly popular among honeymooners and photography enthusiasts seeking dramatic natural backdrops.
Nearby, Sunan Ibu Sunrise Point has become increasingly popular among tourists looking for panoramic sunrise views. Situated in the highlands above Kawah Putih, the viewpoint allows visitors to witness cloud formations and mountain landscapes during early morning hours.
Unlike conventional tourist sites, Sunan Ibu operates based on weather conditions. Access is typically available before sunrise using shuttle vehicles or four-wheel-drive transportation due to steep terrain.
The Rengganis Suspension Bridge has also become a major tourism magnet. Stretching approximately 370 meters above the forest floor, the bridge is recognized as one of Southeast Asia’s longest suspension bridges. Visitors can purchase bundled access packages ranging from Rp70,000 to Rp100,000, which include nearby sulfur hot springs and crater attractions.
Tea Plantation Tourism Gains Momentum in Pangalengan
Further south, Pangalengan has transformed into one of Bandung’s fastest-growing tourism zones thanks to its expansive tea plantation landscapes and outdoor adventure activities.
Taman Langit Pangalengan has become a favorite among campers and nature lovers due to its panoramic hilltop setting at around 1,670 meters above sea level. Visitors can enjoy 360-degree views of tea fields while participating in overnight camping experiences.
The attraction charges only Rp15,000 for entrance, making it one of Bandung’s most affordable highland destinations. Operators also provide camping equipment rentals for travelers arriving without gear.
Nimo Highland has emerged as another major attraction in Pangalengan. Combining tea plantation scenery with Santorini-inspired architecture, the site offers circular skywalks, giant ferris wheels, cafés, and multiple viewing platforms overlooking rolling green hills.
Weekend visitors often arrive before sunrise to capture the morning mist covering the plantations. Entrance fees range from Rp55,000 on weekdays to Rp60,000 during weekends.
Adventure tourism has also expanded rapidly in Pangalengan. Rafting activities along the Palayangan River now attract visitors looking for adrenaline-based outdoor experiences. Operators provide approximately 4.5-kilometer rafting packages lasting around 90 minutes, with average prices starting at Rp150,000 per person.
Social Media and Affordable Pricing Drive Tourism Growth
Tourism analysts say Bandung nature tourism continues to thrive largely because destinations combine scenic landscapes with relatively affordable entrance fees. Most attractions remain accessible to middle-income travelers, particularly families and younger tourists.
Social media platforms have also significantly influenced tourism traffic. Destinations such as Orchid Forest Cikole, Kawah Putih, and Nimo Highland frequently appear in TikTok travel videos and Instagram posts, boosting visibility among younger audiences.
Orchid Forest Cikole, for instance, has become known for its illuminated pine forest pathways and atmospheric nighttime photography spots. Visitors are encouraged to arrive in the late afternoon to enjoy cooler temperatures and evening light installations.
Industry observers believe Bandung’s tourism sector will remain highly competitive throughout the rest of 2026 as operators continue investing in visually appealing attractions and outdoor recreation experiences.
With cooler temperatures, diverse landscapes, and increasingly modern tourism facilities, Bandung’s highland destinations are expected to maintain strong visitor numbers, particularly during school holidays and long weekends.
