TRENGGALEK – Seloan Agung festival returned to Munjungan Village in Trenggalek this week as residents gathered to preserve cultural traditions and strengthen community values across generations.

The annual village cleansing ceremony, locally known as Bersih Desa Munjungan, took place from May 5 to May 7, 2026. The event carried the theme “Preserving Tradition, Building Future Generations.”

Village officials, religious leaders, youth groups, community elders, and local residents joined the three-day cultural celebration in Munjungan District.

The festival has become an important tradition for residents who want to protect ancestral heritage while teaching younger generations about local history and identity.

Organizers designed the event not only as a ceremonial tradition but also as a cultural education program for the community’s youth.

The celebration began with visits to historical sites and a sacred water collection ritual from Patirtan, a location that local residents consider spiritually and historically important.

Afterward, residents visited the grave of Eyang Hadirana to honor ancestors who played an important role in the village’s history.

The procession continued with a cultural parade carrying water from Patirtan. Community leaders and participants wore traditional clothing while carrying cultural symbols during the ceremony.

Large crowds gathered along the route to watch the procession, which combined spiritual values with traditional celebration.

Religious activities also formed a major part of the Seloan Agung festival. Residents joined Quran recitations, collective prayers, and istighotsah ceremonies to pray for safety, prosperity, and future progress for the village.
