BLITAR – The Kanigoro iconic park project will transform the former Kanigoro Market site in Blitar Regency into a new public green space and culinary hub. The local government plans to build the themed park on a 4,000-square-meter plot, with construction targeted to begin in 2027.
Blitar Regent Rijanto said the idea to convert the former market land into a park dates back to his first term in office. However, the upcoming park will differ from the nearby Kanigoro Green Open Space. Instead, it will combine leisure facilities with a curated food court and shaded gazebos for visitors.
On Tuesday, Rijanto inspected and measured the site with technical agencies to refine the layout. He added that the food court will feature signature Blitar dishes such as Soto Kanigoro, uceng fish, and Pecel Lambe Dower. Consequently, officials expect the park to attract both residents and tourists seeking local culinary experiences.
Meanwhile, Blitar Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency head Agus Zaenal Arifin said the design includes fountains, koi fish features, and an egg-themed statue reflecting regional products. In addition, sunflower gardens will surround the park to reinforce Kanigoro’s identity. Authorities also plan an L-shaped food court to improve spatial organization and visitor flow.
According to Agus, road base work will start in 2026 before main structures rise in 2027. The detailed budget remains under preparation and should emerge within weeks. Nevertheless, the regency administration aims to secure legislative support so the Kanigoro iconic park can proceed as scheduled.
