  • Eid Return Traffic Rises in Tulungagung, but Southern Route Remains Clear During Peak Holiday Flow

TULUNGAGUNG – Eid return traffic increased across several parts of Tulungagung during the peak of the Idul Fitri return flow on Tuesday, although traffic conditions on major roads remained smooth and under control.

Police said they did not find major congestion or long queues on key routes, even as more vehicles returned from holiday trips.

Muhammad Taufik Nabila, head of traffic police at the local police department, said officers continued monitoring traffic conditions from morning until midday.

He said traffic remained manageable and no serious buildup appeared on the main roads.

“Based on today’s traffic monitoring, there has been no buildup or congestion on the roads,” Taufik said.

Even so, police recorded a noticeable rise in vehicle volume on Sunday and Monday afternoon.

The increase appeared at several local crossings and inter-regional access points that usually become busy during the Eid return period.

Traffic officers identified Jetakan, Cuiri, and Lembu Peteng as the busiest areas during that period.

Those points connect local roads with routes linking Kediri and Trenggalek, making them important for regional vehicle movement.

“On Sunday and Monday afternoon, traffic increased in Jetakan, Cuiri, and Lembu Peteng, both on local routes and crossings from Kediri to Trenggalek,” he said.

Police also observed traffic conditions on the southern side of Tulungagung.

That corridor remained relatively quiet compared with northern and central routes.

The southern route includes access to coastal roads and the Jalur Lintas Selatan corridor, which often attracts travelers heading toward beach destinations.

Taufik said fewer visitors in the southern area helped traffic stay smooth throughout the day.

Because vehicle numbers remained low, officers did not need additional traffic engineering in that corridor.

Even with stable conditions, police continue intensive monitoring at points that showed earlier increases.

Officers also maintain traffic control to ensure drivers can move safely during the final phase of holiday travel.

Authorities expect vehicle movement to remain dynamic until evening as more residents complete their return trips.

Police urged drivers to stay alert, follow road signs, and avoid speeding during long-distance travel.

They also hope controlled traffic conditions will help residents return from hometown visits safely and comfortably.

BBPJN Study Trenggalek-Ponorogo Landslide Site at KM 16 to Prevent Future Disasters

TRENGGALEK – Authorities are conducting a detailed assessment of the Trenggalek-Ponorogo landslide at KM 16 on the national road linking Trenggalek Regency and Ponorogo Regency, as officials move beyond emergency cleanup and focus on preventing another collapse.

The landslide recently blocked part of the route, prompting crews to clear debris and reopen access. Now, engineers from the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) are studying the soil and rock structure around the slope to understand what triggered the incident.

Technical teams have started a topographic survey near the hillside in Nglinggis Village. The survey focuses on the upper section of the slope, which officials believe may be the main source of the landslide.

“We are surveying the upper part of the slope to identify what causes the soil movement,” said Endhy Aktony.

Engineers are examining several possible factors. Water flow, nearby farmland, and unstable soil layers could all contribute to the slope’s movement.

“We must understand the soil structure in detail before deciding on permanent repairs,” Aktony said. “Fixing the lower section will not help if material continues sliding from the hilltop.”

Early inspections show that the retaining wall at the base of the slope remains relatively stable. Large rocks from the landslide cracked the outer part of the structure, but the main foundation remains intact.

While engineers continue their analysis, authorities are also working to restore the road ahead of the Eid homecoming travel season, when traffic typically rises across regional routes.

Construction crews have begun preparing several temporary measures. Workers plan to level the road surface using Class A base material to stabilize the affected section.

They will also install tarpaulins along the lower slope to prevent rainwater from soaking into the soil. Excess moisture can weaken the ground and increase the risk of further movement.

In addition, crews are preparing a temporary asphalt layer, known as blacktop, to ensure vehicles can pass safely through the area while longer-term repairs are planned.

Joint teams from several government agencies continue monitoring conditions at KM 16. Officials hope the technical study will help identify a permanent solution to reduce landslide risks along the Trenggalek-Ponorogo corridor.

“Our target is to complete the temporary blacktop before Eid,” Aktony said. “We also installed tarpaulins to reduce rainwater infiltration and keep the soil stable.”

Authorities say the road remains an important transportation link for communities and economic activity between the two regions.

  • Blitar Road Repairs Intensify on 14 Key Routes Ahead of Eid Homecoming Travel Surge

Blitar Road Repairs Intensify on 14 Key Routes Ahead of Eid Homecoming Travel Surge

BLITAR – Blitar road repairs program has intensified as local authorities prepare for the surge in traffic during the upcoming Eid homecoming season. Officials have prioritized key routes connecting districts and tourist destinations across Blitar Regency.

The local government has identified at least 14 road sections for urgent maintenance to improve travel safety and comfort for motorists during the holiday period.

Agus Zaenal said the quick response unit under the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office has started repairing damaged roads in several priority areas.

“To prepare for the Eid travel season, our team began repairs in the southern region based on reports from residents,” he said.

The maintenance work covers several major routes connecting Blitar with neighboring areas. These include the roads linking Blitar with Bakung, Tambakrejo, Tulungagung, Kediri through Nglegok, and Malang through Kesamben.

Authorities have also repaired several busy roads in urban areas where traffic density remains high.

According to Agus, the government currently focuses on patching damaged road surfaces using leftover materials from the 2025 procurement program.

Large-scale road construction projects will begin later because officials are still completing the procurement process for the 2026 fiscal year.

“For now, we are carrying out patchwork repairs using remaining materials from the 2025 procurement. Major construction will start after Eid once the procurement process is completed,” he said.

Besides preparing the main homecoming routes, the Blitar administration has also planned several infrastructure projects this year.

One project focuses on developing infrastructure in mining areas. Another aims to improve access roads leading to tourist destinations in the region.

The government has prepared concrete road construction projects in villages such as Candirejo and Karangrejo.

Agus said the Candirejo project has reached around 50 percent completion, and the government will continue the development in stages.

Meanwhile, the administration also plans to improve access roads to several beaches along the southern coast.

The upgrades will include routes from the Jalur Lintas Selatan to Pudak Beach and Tambakrejo Beach.

Authorities also plan to widen the road connecting Margomulyo to Serang Beach.

Officials hope the Blitar road repairs and infrastructure upgrades will help ensure smoother and safer traffic flow during the Eid homecoming period.
