BLITAR – Indonesia’s state railway operator has intensified Lebaran train safety checks ahead of the 2026 Eid homecoming season. As millions prepare to travel across Java, authorities aim to prevent technical disruptions during the peak holiday rush.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 7 Madiun is conducting detailed inspections and maintenance on locomotives and passenger cars. In particular, the company wants to secure smooth operations from March 11 to April 1, 2026.
According to Tohari, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 7 Madiun, technicians are servicing all train sets. Meanwhile, teams are working at the Madiun Locomotive Depot and the Blitar Train Depot to complete preparations on time.
“This maintenance reflects our commitment to operational readiness,” he said on Monday (March 2). Therefore, the company expects trains to run without major technical problems.
To handle rising passenger demand, Daop 7 Madiun has prepared 10 locomotives and 94 train cars. Overall, the fleet supports both safety and comfort.
The locomotives include six CC 201 units and four CC 203 units. In addition, the company has readied 78 executive and economy-class coaches.
It has also prepared five dining and power generator cars (MP). Moreover, the fleet includes four dining cars (M1), four generator cars (P), and three baggage cars.
Furthermore, PT KAI will rotate the 10 locomotives across major routes. These routes include Madiun Jaya, Bangunkarta, Singasari, Brantas, Kahuripan, and additional Brantas services. By applying this rotation system, the operator maintains operational flexibility.
Engineers are checking headlights, electrical systems, speedometers, windshield wipers, and the deadman pedal. As a result, they aim to strengthen driver safety.
Meanwhile, inspection teams are examining bogies and coupling systems for wear. Inside the coaches, crews are testing air conditioning, toilets, seats, and lighting.
If technicians find worn parts, they replace them immediately. Consequently, the company reduces the risk of breakdowns during the Lebaran rush.
“We designed a flexible scheme,” Tohari said. “Some locomotives will operate, others will stay on standby, and the rest will undergo routine maintenance.”
Overall, through intensified Lebaran train safety checks, PT KAI aims to ensure safe and comfortable travel during Indonesia’s busiest annual migration period.
