TRENGGALEK – A KDMP construction delay has disrupted development in Kamulan Village, Trenggalek, after heavy rain forced officials to temporarily suspend work on the new cooperative building.

The project involves the construction of the Koperasi Desa Merah Putih (KDMP) in Trenggalek, East Java. Over the past week, persistent downpours have saturated the site, making it unsafe to continue operations. As a result, village authorities decided to pause construction until weather conditions improve.

Masruri, head of Kamulan Village in Durenan district, said the project had reached approximately 50 percent completion before work stopped.

“Construction is already about halfway done. However, we are currently in the land-filling stage, which heavily depends on weather conditions. Because it has rained continuously for a week, we had to suspend the work,” he said on Tuesday (March 3).

According to Masruri, heavy rainfall has left the soil soft and muddy. Consequently, trucks transporting materials risk spilling dirt onto the adjacent roadway.

The KDMP site sits directly beside a busy provincial road with steady daily traffic. Therefore, village officials feared that mud and soil scattered onto the asphalt could create slippery conditions and endanger motorists.

“If soil from the trucks spreads onto the road, it could put drivers at risk. We do not want any accidents. For that reason, we decided to temporarily halt the project,” Masruri explained.

Currently, the project has entered the land-filling phase, a stage that requires stable ground conditions. However, ongoing rainfall has made it impossible to maintain site safety and cleanliness.

Village authorities said they coordinated with the contractor before making the decision. Once the weather improves and soil conditions stabilize, construction will resume immediately.

Despite the delay, the village government remains committed to completing the KDMP building on schedule. Officials expect the new cooperative facility to enhance public services in Kamulan Village.

In addition to supporting administrative functions, the building aims to provide a more comfortable environment for residents accessing local services. Therefore, authorities hope favorable weather will allow the project to proceed without further setbacks.

Meanwhile, officials continue monitoring the construction area to prevent additional damage caused by rain. They have also urged residents to remain cautious when passing near the site until work resumes.
