TRENGGALEK – Officials at Surodakan Terminal have started bus safety checks ahead of the Eid travel peak by testing drivers and crew members for health conditions and drug use.

The inspection took place as passenger traffic is expected to rise in the coming days across Trenggalek. Authorities want to ensure bus crews remain fit before operating long-distance holiday routes.

Terminal management worked with local police, the health center, and National Narcotics Agency in the joint inspection.

Devi Ariandi, head of the terminal service unit, said officers focused on both medical fitness and drug prevention.

“Health checks included blood sugar, cholesterol, and several other medical examinations. We want bus crews departing from Surodakan Terminal to reach their destinations safely and without health problems,” he said.

Medical teams from Puskesmas Rejowinangun examined 26 crew members during the operation. All participants passed the health screening.

Officers also carried out urine tests on 16 bus crew members. Every result came back negative for narcotics.

The findings allowed all tested personnel to continue working during the holiday transport period.

Inspectors did not stop at personnel checks. They also examined buses through a ramp check procedure.

The team inspected five buses serving both intercity and interprovincial routes. Officials reviewed documents such as operating cards, vehicle registration papers, driver licenses, and periodic inspection certificates.

They also checked technical systems inside each vehicle. Brake performance, lighting equipment, and emergency response tools became part of the inspection.

“Supporting equipment such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits was also checked. Everything was complete, and the vehicles were declared roadworthy,” Devi said.

Authorities say the combined inspection helps lower travel risks during one of the busiest transport periods in Indonesia. They expect bus operators to maintain the same safety standards throughout the Eid travel season.
