BLITAR – Blitar Transportation Agency has tightened enforcement against overdimension and overloading (ODOL) trucks during 2026. Authorities want to reduce road damage and improve traffic safety across major logistics routes in the regency.

Officials said overloaded freight trucks remain one of the main causes of damaged roads in several distribution corridors. Heavy cargo loads also increase the risk of traffic accidents and brake failure on busy roads.

Widhianto, head of road safety at the Blitar Transportation Agency, said ODOL violations continue to threaten both infrastructure and public safety. According to him, overloaded trucks become harder to control during trips.

“The impact is very broad, from accelerating road damage to endangering other road users because overloaded vehicles become difficult to control,” Widhianto said.

The Transportation Agency has now adopted a strict no-tolerance policy against trucks that exceed legal dimension and load standards. Authorities currently conduct inspections through mandatory vehicle roadworthiness tests, known locally as uji kir.

During inspections, officers examine vehicle conditions, cargo bed sizes, and carrying capacity. Teams compare the vehicles with official technical specifications before issuing operational approval.

If officers find violations related to excessive dimensions or overloaded cargo, the vehicle automatically fails the inspection. Owners must restore the vehicle to normal specifications before authorities allow it to operate again.

“If we find dimension or loading violations, the vehicle must return to standard specifications before it can operate again,” Widhianto explained.

Besides inspections at testing facilities, the Transportation Agency has also coordinated with local police. Officials now monitor freight trucks along logistics routes considered vulnerable to ODOL violations.

Authorities urged transport companies and truck owners to adjust their fleets immediately. Officials believe stronger compliance can reduce accident risks and extend the lifespan of regional roads.

According to the agency, overloaded trucks also increase maintenance costs because damaged roads require frequent repairs every year.

Widhianto said awareness among transport operators remains important for creating safer transportation systems across Blitar Regency.

“If vehicles follow technical specifications, safety improves and road damage can decrease significantly,” he added.

The stricter ODOL enforcement policy forms part of broader efforts to improve transportation safety and maintain infrastructure quality in the region.
