RADAR TULUNGAGUNG – The mystery surrounding Gunung Mulia in Pelabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi, West Java, has once again captured public attention after a spiritual exploration video revealed several sacred sites linked to the legend of Queen of the South Sea, Nyai Roro Kidul, and Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno.
Located near Karang Hawu Beach in the Cisolok area, Gunung Mulia attracts spiritual pilgrims because of its ancient petilasan, mystical chambers, and sacred tombs that many locals consider spiritually powerful. The video documentation explored several hidden locations while uncovering stories that local caretakers and spiritual communities continue to preserve.
Gunung Mulia stands directly across from Gunung Winangun, another spiritual landmark closely connected to the mythology of Nyai Roro Kidul. Many visitors believe the area keeps historical traces related to meditation rituals, spiritual journeys, and old Sundanese mystical traditions that still survive today.
Sacred Tomb of Mbah Kingking
One of the first locations visited during the exploration was the tomb Mbah Kingking. According to the site caretaker, Pak Riman, the figure was an elder Islamic scholar whose grave has become a popular pilgrimage destination for visitors from across Indonesia.
The tomb sits beneath giant trees that create a cool and calm atmosphere despite the area being close to the southern coastline. Pilgrims often come to pray, seek blessings, and perform spiritual reflection at the sacred site.
Pak Riman explained that many visitors conduct spiritual retreats at Gunung Mulia, although the management limits overnight rituals to three days. The sacred complex remains open 24 hours for pilgrims and tourists seeking religious or historical experiences.
The Legendary Chamber of Nyai Roro Kidul
The exploration became even more intriguing when the group entered a chamber believed to be the resting place of Nyai Roro Kidul, the mythical Queen of the South Sea.
Inside the room stood a traditional bed facing a wooden chair, along with incense holders, water jars, and a portrait associated with the legendary queen. Local spiritual communities believe the chamber once served as a spiritual resting place connected to the mystical ruler of the southern ocean.
The room also displayed Islamic calligraphy featuring the names of Allah and Prophet Muhammad, blending local spiritual traditions with religious symbolism. Caretakers emphasized that visitors should maintain respect while entering the sacred area.
Nearby, another chamber contained a yellow-covered tomb linked to Dewi Langgengsari, another mystical figure associated with the spiritual folklore of Pelabuhan Ratu.
Soekarno’s Meditation Site Draws Attention
One of the most talked-about discoveries inside Gunung Mulia was a secluded room believed to be the meditation site of Indonesia’s founding president, Soekarno.
The room featured an old portrait of Soekarno during his younger years, a faded Pancasila symbol, incense containers, and several chairs believed to have been used during spiritual contemplation rituals. The narrator of the exploration claimed he felt spiritually drawn toward the chamber before discovering it was associated with Soekarno.
Local stories suggest that Soekarno once visited the area for tirakat, a Javanese spiritual practice involving meditation and self-reflection. Although no official historical records confirm the story, the narrative continues to attract pilgrims and curiosity seekers from different regions.
The existence of Soekarno’s alleged meditation site has strengthened Gunung Mulia’s reputation as one of the most mystical destinations in Sukabumi.
Hidden Spiritual Tourism in Pelabuhan Ratu
Beyond the mystical stories, Gunung Mulia has also emerged as a unique spiritual tourism destination in West Java. The site offers scenic views overlooking Karang Hawu Beach and the Southern Ocean, creating a peaceful atmosphere for visitors.
According to Pak Riman, pilgrims visiting Gunung Mulia come from Java, Sumatra, and several other regions. Many seek spiritual calmness, while others simply want to explore the legendary history surrounding Pelabuhan Ratu.
The sacred complex reportedly contains two petilasan and three tombs connected to various respected spiritual figures. Visitors can access the area through Karang Hawu Village, Cisolok District, Sukabumi Regency.
The combination of folklore, history, coastal scenery, and spiritual beliefs continues to make Gunung Mulia one of the most mysterious destinations in Indonesia. For many locals and pilgrims, the sacred hill remains more than just a tourist attraction — it is a place where myth, history, and spiritual tradition still coexist today.
