BLITAR – Staple food prices in Blitar remain stable as Eid approaches, with local officials confirming that supplies in both traditional and modern markets remain secure.
The city government and local security officials inspected several trading centers on Sunday to check prices and stock levels. They found no major increase in essential goods, even as consumer demand began to rise before the holiday.
Syauqul Muhibbin said residents do not need to worry about shortages because rice, sugar, and cooking oil remain available across the city.
“People should stay calm ahead of Eid because stock is secure and prices remain relatively stable. Residents can shop normally,” he said.
Officials visited traditional markets, small neighborhood stores, and supermarkets during the inspection. The monitoring covered several key food products that usually experience price pressure before major holidays.
At Pasar Pon, traders reported that chili prices had started to decline after previously reaching Rp 80,000 per kilogram.
Chicken meat and beef prices also remained steady during the latest inspection. Officials said stable prices help maintain purchasing confidence as holiday demand increases.
Muhibbin urged residents to buy only what they need and avoid panic buying. He said excessive purchases could create unnecessary pressure on supply chains.
“The important thing is to shop wisely based on actual needs. There is no need to buy excessively because stock is guaranteed,” he added.
Kalfaris Triwijaya Lalo also asked the public to remain calm because current market conditions remain under control.
He said some products had shown temporary increases in previous weeks, but prices have now returned to stable levels after further checks.
“After we reviewed the markets again, prices are stable and supply remains safe,” he said.
Police also warned traders and distributors to sell only products that remain safe for consumption. Authorities want to prevent expired goods from entering circulation during the busy shopping period.
The local food task force will continue monitoring prices until Eid. Officials hope the market stays stable and avoids sudden spikes in the final days before the holiday.
