TRENGGALEK – The Trenggalek administration has stepped up Eid traffic preparations before this year’s holiday travel season. Officials are repairing damaged traffic facilities and preparing officers for busy roads.

Traffic volume is expected to rise as residents begin traveling for the annual Eid homecoming across Indonesia. Local authorities have started checking road infrastructure early to reduce disruption.

The Housing, Settlement, and Transportation Agency is focusing first on damaged traffic lights and road signs. Officials want all key facilities to work properly before travel peaks.

Hendra Sanggara, head of traffic at the agency, said field teams are already carrying out repairs and inspections.

“We are assigning personnel to repair traffic facilities, including damaged traffic lights. We are also checking and rearranging traffic signs on several roads,” he said.

Hendra explained that traffic lights need special attention because signal failures can quickly create long queues. This usually happens at intersections that connect town roads with routes to nearby districts.

Officers are also reviewing road signs in crowded areas. They want drivers to read directions clearly during busy travel hours.

The agency will place personnel at several congestion-prone points across the regency. Officers will monitor traffic and respond when queues begin to build.

Several intersections in central Trenggalek often become bottlenecks during Eid travel. Those locations are now under closer observation.

Hendra said officials may adjust traffic light timing at those intersections. Longer green-light periods can help reduce waiting time.

“We will reset traffic light timing at several intersections that often become crowded. If needed, officers will direct traffic manually in the field,” he explained.

Manual traffic control remains part of the plan because road conditions can change quickly. Vehicle numbers often rise suddenly during peak travel hours.

The agency is also preparing traffic engineering measures with police support. Officers may switch off traffic lights if congestion becomes severe.

Authorities may also close selected turning points. That step can keep the main road moving more smoothly.

Officials used similar measures during previous Eid travel periods. The method helped reduce queues near busy junctions and commercial areas.

They also hope early preparation will lower accident risks. Safer roads remain a key target during both departure and return travel.

The Trenggalek government expects these measures to keep Eid traffic orderly, smooth, and safer for road users.
