BLITAR – A Blitar train drug test was carried out on railway workers at Blitar Railway Station as authorities moved to strengthen passenger safety ahead of the Eid travel period. The inspection targeted frontline railway staff who handle train operations during one of Indonesia’s busiest travel periods.

Officers from National Narcotics Agency of Blitar City (BNNK Blitar) carried out random urine tests on station employees and transport personnel on Wednesday. All workers tested negative for narcotics.

The screening also covered key railway facilities under Kereta Api Indonesia Operational Area 7 Madiun. Those locations included Madiun Locomotive Depot, Kertosono Railway Station, and Tulungagung Railway Station.

Tohari, public relations manager for the railway operator, said the checks were essential because train frequency rises sharply before Eid.

“This is part of our commitment to keeping holiday travel safe. Train drivers, conductors, and operational staff must stay fit and free from narcotics,” he said.

Before taking the drug test, workers first underwent a full health screening. Medical teams checked blood pressure, pulse rate, blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol levels.

Officers then continued with alcohol screening and random narcotics tests. The results showed that all personnel were physically fit and free from drug abuse.

Tohari said healthy and disciplined staff are crucial for maintaining reliable train operations during the holiday rush.

“With healthy, disciplined, and drug-free personnel, we are optimistic about handling this year’s Eid transportation period successfully,” he said.

He added that railway authorities will continue regular health checks and drug screening to maintain safety standards throughout the travel season.

The Eid holiday period usually brings a sharp increase in passenger numbers across Java, making safety controls a priority for rail operators.
