BLITAR – Blitar PUPR road maintenance has intensified ahead of Eid al-Fitr as authorities move to ensure safer and smoother holiday travel across the city.
The Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) of Blitar City has increased inspections and repair work. Officials are focusing on potholes and flood-prone road sections that could disrupt traffic during the Lebaran rush.
Erna Santi, head of Blitar City’s PUPR office, said her team conducts regular field checks. The agency also responds directly to public complaints. She noted that citizen reports help determine which roads require urgent repairs.
“Every year before Eid, we monitor conditions in the field and follow up on reports about potholes,” she said on Wednesday (March 4).
In addition to damaged asphalt, the agency has identified several areas with standing water after rainfall. Field inspections show that clogged drainage systems often trigger these puddles.
According to Erna, blocked drains can accelerate road damage. They also increase risks for motorists, especially motorcyclists. For that reason, crews now repair road surfaces while clearing drainage channels.
“If we find puddles, our inspection usually points to drainage blockages,” she explained.
By handling both issues at once, the agency aims to prevent further deterioration and reduce accident risks during peak travel days.
To support Blitar PUPR road maintenance, the city has allocated around Rp 600 million from its annual maintenance budget.
The agency uses the funds in stages. Officials adjust spending based on the severity of damage found in the field. Crews prioritize roads that pose the highest safety risks.
Erna stressed that the program aims to improve comfort and safety for residents. As Eid approaches, traffic volume is expected to rise significantly.
Through early repairs and responsive action, the city hopes to keep traffic flowing smoothly during the holiday season.
