RADAR TRENGGALEK – A road collapse in Trenggalek damaged the main access route to Gading village in Tugu district after heavy rain on Wednesday (Feb. 18). Runoff from mountain slopes eroded the road shoulder and caused part of the roadway to cave in. Consequently, sections of the surface turned muddy and slippery.

The damaged road serves as the only connection between Pucang Anak and Gading village. Therefore, motorists must pass with extra caution, especially in early morning and at night. If erosion widens further, mobility, trade, schooling, and daily activities could face disruption.

Seeing the worsening condition, residents quickly organized mutual aid repairs. Using simple tools, they reinforced the eroded shoulder with soil and stones so motorcycles and cars could still pass. As a result, the temporary work helps keep the vital route open.

Meanwhile, Gading village head Wiryanto said intense rain the previous day caused runoff, locally called “ancar,” to scour the roadside.

“Yesterday’s heavy rain caused the road to collapse because runoff from the mountain eroded the shoulder. The water flowed very strongly, so the edge could not withstand it,” he said.

However, the village government has requested district support for permanent reconstruction. Officials fear continued rainfall could widen the collapse because saturated soil becomes unstable. Therefore, they urge rapid intervention from authorities.

For now, authorities urge drivers to slow down at the damaged point. In addition, the village plans to install temporary warning signs to prevent accidents. Residents hope their emergency repairs will maintain access until full restoration begins.
