TULUNGAGUNG – A theft case at the Tulungagung Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) has shocked local authorities after police revealed that the suspect allegedly got a security guard drunk before stealing government assets from the office complex.
Police arrested Mohammad Ulin Nuha, 29, from Ngantru District, after tracking him for several days. Officers from the Tulungagung Police Criminal Investigation Unit captured him at a coffee stall in Ringinpitu Village, Kedungwaru District, on May 12 at around 9:15 p.m.
Police said the suspect had prepared the crime carefully. Before the theft, he often spent time near the Tulungagung Culture and Tourism Office, known locally as Disbudpar. During that period, he observed employee routines and studied the office security system.
Investigators also found that the suspect learned where staff kept room keys. He later used that information to enter several office rooms during the theft.
Tulungagung Police Criminal Investigation Chief Iptu Andi Wiranata Tamba said the incident happened on May 2 at around 3:30 a.m.
According to police, the suspect came to the security post carrying alcoholic drinks. He then invited the night guard to drink together inside the office compound.
The guard eventually became heavily intoxicated and lost consciousness. After that, the suspect took the main office keys from the security post and entered multiple rooms inside the building.
“He waited until the guard lost awareness because of alcohol. After that, he took the access keys and entered several rooms,” Andi said.
The suspect stole several electronic devices owned by the government office. Police said he later returned the keys to the security post to avoid suspicion.
Because the keys stayed in their original location, office employees did not immediately realize that a theft had occurred. The security guard also failed to notice the missing assets after regaining consciousness.
Officials only discovered the loss several days later. The Tulungagung Culture and Tourism Office reported the case to police on May 6.
During the investigation, officers discovered that the suspect had hidden the stolen electronics outside Tulungagung. Police said he stored the items at a friend’s house in Kediri to complicate the investigation process.
Investigators later recovered several stolen assets from the location. Officers seized an Axioo MyPC One Pro J5 computer, an Epson L3211 printer, and a white Epson scanner with its original box.
Police also confiscated a Suzuki Bravo motorcycle with license plate AG 4659 R. Investigators believe the suspect used the vehicle during the crime.
Authorities charged the suspect under Article 363 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code on aggravated theft. He now faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
