BLITAR – Greenfields Farm 3 project in Blitar has received strong backing from residents living closest to the planned development site, even as questions over the investment project surfaced during a public hearing at the Blitar Regency Council.
The debate emerged during a clarification hearing on permits held by the Blitar Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) on Tuesday. The meeting brought together Greenfields management, lawmakers, and government agencies to address public concerns surrounding the planned expansion.
While a community organization previously questioned aspects of the project, residents from the immediate area around the proposed site voiced clear support for the investment.
One of them was Negro Heriono, a resident of Sumberduren Hamlet in Ngadirenggo Village, Wlingi District. Local people see the project as an opportunity to improve economic conditions and create new jobs, he said.
“One hundred percent of the people in Sumberduren fully support the presence of Greenfields Farm 3. Many roads in our area still need improvement. If investors come, we believe infrastructure will improve and job opportunities will increase,” he said.
According to Negro, residents have consistently supported the dairy farm expansion because of its potential economic benefits. The local resident also challenged anyone who doubts the level of community support to verify the situation directly with people living around the project site.
Support from local residents aligns with views expressed by members of the regional legislature. Blitar Regency Council member Anik Wahjuningsih said large-scale investments often generate positive multiplier effects for regional economies.
Projects such as Farm 3 could contribute to local revenue and stimulate broader economic activity, Anik said. At the same time, she emphasized the importance of maximizing benefits for nearby communities.
The legislator also clarified that the hearing did not originate from complaints submitted by local residents. Instead, the request came from an external organization known as Gerakan Anak Nasional (GANAS).
“I do not know whether they received complaints from the public or not. Our view remains positive. I believe their intention is also to show concern for Blitar Regency,” she said.
Meanwhile, Greenfields management stressed that the project remains in the administrative stage. Company representative Heru Prabowo said no physical construction has started at the Farm 3 site.
“What we need to underline is that physical construction of Farm 3 has not begun. We have not carried out any construction activities there, so no operational activities are taking place at the site,” Heru said.
At present, the company is preparing environmental documents, including baseline environmental studies and public consultations. Greenfields said it remains committed to environmental protection and transparency throughout the development process.
“We prioritize environmental protection, which has become a concern for community organizations. We also continue to open space for constructive dialogue. Every development project must proceed responsibly and transparently,” Heru said.
As discussions continue, local residents remain hopeful that the Greenfields Farm 3 project will bring new employment opportunities, infrastructure improvements, and long-term economic growth to the surrounding area.
