RADAR TULUNGAGUNG – The Indonesian government has officially opened opportunities for 30,000 new jobs under the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives program, a major initiative designed to transform villages into economic growth centers across the country.

The recruitment announcement immediately attracted public attention because the government plans to place selected candidates as cooperative managers under the state-backed Agrinas system. The program also forms part of President Prabowo Subianto’s broader strategy to strengthen village economies and create new employment opportunities for young Indonesians.

Officials said the recruitment process remains fully open to the public, especially fresh graduates who want to contribute to rural economic development. Applicants can register through official government channels and follow the selection stages prepared by the recruitment committee.

The Merah Putih Village Cooperatives initiative targets the establishment of cooperative institutions in around 80,000 villages across Indonesia. Government representatives described the program as a long-term effort to make villages the backbone of national economic growth.

Government Targets Young Talent for Village Economy

During the discussion, officials stressed that the government wants young Indonesians to return to villages and help develop local economies. The administration believes Indonesia cannot achieve its vision of becoming a developed nation if villages remain economically weak.

Officials also acknowledged that competition for the 30,000 manager positions will become intense because the roles require strong managerial and business skills. Candidates must meet specific qualifications before joining the program.

Authorities explained that selected managers will receive continuous assistance from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Agrinas. The government plans to provide operational guidance and business mentoring so cooperatives can run effectively from the beginning.

Officials added that training programs started long before the recruitment announcement. The ministry has already trained around 160,000 cooperative administrators from various regions in cooperative management and village-based business operations.

The government considers this preparation important because the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives program could become one of Indonesia’s largest rural economic empowerment projects.

Cooperative Structure and Recruitment Explained

Government representatives also clarified confusion circulating on social media regarding salaries and management structures inside the cooperatives.

Each cooperative institution will include eight local administrators chosen through village deliberation meetings. These positions consist of five cooperative managers and three supervisors selected directly by local communities.

However, the 30,000 newly recruited personnel differ from those eight village officials. The government will assign the selected candidates from the national recruitment process as professional cooperative managers.

Officials stressed that villagers choose the cooperative administrators, while the recruited managers focus on strengthening professional business operations.

The government has carried out the cooperative formation phase from March until July 2025. During this stage, villages must complete legal documents, organizational structures, and operational preparations before entering the business activation phase.

Digital System Becomes Key to Success

The government admitted that managing tens of thousands of cooperative entities would become difficult without digital support systems.

Officials revealed that authorities are preparing a single digital platform to monitor and manage cooperative operations nationwide. The government expects the digitalization effort to improve transparency, performance evaluation, and financial monitoring.

The administration also highlighted six main business sectors that will form the foundation of the cooperative system. Villages can still develop additional businesses based on local economic potential outside those six sectors.

To ensure smooth operations, the government identified several key requirements, including initial capital schemes, operational guidelines, business mentoring, digital systems, and regional distribution hubs at the regency level.

President Prabowo has also instructed the government to establish regional hubs through local wholesale centers to strengthen cooperative supply chains and business distribution networks.

Pilot Projects Already Generate Strong Transactions

Despite public skepticism, officials claimed that pilot projects for the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives have already shown promising results.

Since the launch event in Klaten on July 21, 2025, more than 100 cooperative pilot projects have emerged through community initiatives. Several cooperatives have already recorded transactions worth billions of rupiah.

Officials mentioned East Java and North Sumatra as regions where village-based cooperative activities already operate successfully, especially among cooperatives connected to Islamic boarding schools.

However, authorities admitted that the nationwide implementation involving 30,000 managers and 80,000 village cooperatives still requires further preparation before full operations begin later this year.

The government plans to accelerate business operations after completing infrastructure development between July and August 2025. Officials hope the program can create sustainable rural businesses while generating large-scale employment opportunities for Indonesian youth.
